Special Olympics Spirit Week
Mote became a Special Olympics Unified Champion school in 2024 with the help of our amazing Youth Leadership group. Being a Unified Champion School and having a Youth Leadership Group is such a great way to foster inclusion, leadership, and teamwork among students. The students who are chosen for the group must be really dedicated and passionate about making a positive impact.
The students who were chosen for this incredible opportunity, traveled to Dover and gained firsthand experience in leadership. Learning how to be Youth Leaders and spread the word of inclusion can have such a lasting effect, not just on their own schools but also on other schools they visit or work with. It’s been great that the students are not only helping with events like Spirit Week but also playing an active role in creating a culture of inclusion.
Experiences like this can really shape students' perspectives and influence their behavior in positive ways for the rest of their lives. By immersing them in environments where inclusion is a core value, it helps the students carry the values forward into all areas of life—whether at school, in their future careers, or in their communities. It's incredible that the students are gaining these skills early on, as it sets them up to be leaders in promoting kindness, respect, and equality wherever they go.
