Mrs. Lauren Young grew up in New York, moving to Delaware to attend the University of Delaware. She graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education. While at the University of Delaware, Mrs. Young met her husband, Brian, and Delaware became her permanent home.
Young began her teaching career in the Christina School District in the fall of 1996. After two years in Christina, Mrs. Young started teaching at Forest Oak Elementary School in the Red Clay Consolidated School District, where she remained for 14 years. Teaching Special Education and Third Grade, Mrs. Young received her Master’s in School Leadership from Wilmington University in 2001 and earned the title of Teacher of the Year in 2009.
Mrs. Young spends her free time with her husband Brian, her two children; Ben and Kylie, and their silver lab, Storm. Kylie graduated from Odessa High School under the allied health pathway and is attending Towson University. Ben attends Odessa High School and displays a passion for football. She thanks her family for their support as she has built her career in education.
After serving in many leadership positions, Mrs. Young made the change from teacher to administrator in 2012. She has served Mote Elementary since 2015. She started a PBS program at Mote and supported the teachers with implementing SIOP and Second Step to support Mote’s learners. Mrs. Lauren Young was excited to begin the new position Mote Elementary Principal with familiar staff and families in the 2021 school year. She is committed to the school’s vision and mission to meet the needs of the students, staff, and community as we seek high achievement for all learners.
